    Faculty Spotlight: Dr Hermilo Jasso

A popular classroom lecturer, Dr. Hermilo Jasso teaches courses such as Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Investments, Social Issues in Economics, and International Business at the university.

“Dr. Jasso is a student favorite,” said Dr. Dewayne Thompson, chair of the Department of Business. “Students often mention his keen intellect and ability to communicate effectively. His quick wit and humor is evident whether he is in a meeting or teaching a class.”

Prior to his arrival at Lee in 1987, Jasso worked as a stock broker for Merrill Lynch and as a financial analyst for Metropolitan Life. He has been listed multiple times in “Who’s Who Among American Entrepreneurs,” “Who’s Who Among American Teachers,” “Who’s Who Among Hispanic Americans,” and in “Two Thousand Notable American Men.”

“He is well liked in the community and has served on the board of directors for Pathway Credit Union for many years,” said Thompson. “I think the community was impressed with the way Dr. Jasso handled some very difficult circumstances when his first wife died while his children were young. He demonstrated how strong his Christian faith is and how to lean on that faith when there is simply no place else to turn.”

Jasso was the first recipient of the Janet Rahamut Faculty Award, a recognition chosen by students to honor faculty who are most actively engaged with the student body.

He has traveled extensively to countries such as Italy, China, Austria, Ghana, Russia, Ukraine, and most of South America as part of his faculty development. As a result, he helped create and establish the business department’s study abroad programs in Chile, Italy, Paraguay, and Uruguay. He has been a guest lecturer at multiple universities in South America as well as the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation, a U.S. Department of Defense Institution.

Jasso earned his doctorate degree from Universidad de le Empresa in Montevideo, Uruguay, his master’s degree from Laredo State University, and his bachelor’s degree from Lee College.
