Voices’ Video Hits 20 Million Views

Voices video goes Viral again

Lee University’s elite A Cappella group Voices of Lee recently posted a video of a recording of Hillsong’s “What a Beautiful Name” and Elevation Worship’s “Resurrecting,” arranged by former Voices member Phil Nitz, to its Facebook page. The video has since been viewed over 20 million times.

Filmed by Lee Communication Arts students, the video was recorded in the Lee University Chapel. It was posted to Voices’ Facebook page on July 2, hitting one million views in under 22 hours. The video went on to reach the viral mark with 5 million views within two days. To date, the video has been viewed there over 20 million times and has been shared more than 150,000 times.

“We are so grateful for the response to this video,” said Danny Murray, director of Voices of Lee. “First, that the viewers have found it to be uplifting, and second, that it has given so many people an opportunity to learn about Lee University.”

Several weeks ago, Voices posted a performance of “No Longer Slaves,” which received nearly 9 million views. That recording, along with this most recent one, are a continuation of the Voices of Lee A Cappella worship series. Prior to the release of the first recording, Voices’ Facebook page had 21,700 followers. Between then and the release of the most recent video, Voices’ Facebook page reached 61,500 followers. That number has grown to over 160,000 since the release of Voices’ performance of “What a Beautiful Name.”

“The Voices of Lee has developed a loyal followership among their fan base, and this fan base is quickly growing in number,” said Dr. Jayson VanHook, vice president for information services at Lee. “The quality of the sound is phenomenal, and this is supported visually by the emotional and spiritual delivery from Voices. People are looking for something positive today in their social feed, and Voices of Lee is giving them something that touches the heart.”

The A Cappella group was founded in 1994 and later propelled into the spotlight on NBC’s season one of the Sing-Off. Since then the ensemble has been invited to sing at various festivals, including the Shang Hai International Music Festival. They have toured Europe with concerts at the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris and England’s Ely Cathedral, and they have been featured performers for Christmas at the White House and the 2013 Presidential Inauguration.

The recording is available for purchase on iTunes, Spotify, and Amazon Music.
