    Dr. José Valentino Ruiz is a multi-Latin-GRAMMY® Award nominated artist-producer-engineer, multi-instrumentalist, composer, missionary, and educator known for his passionate performances, versatility, and fluid expression on the flute, saxophone, bass, and Latin percussion.

    Dr. Ruiz's music industry experience includes working for American Idol and X-Factor as a music producer and film scoring for numerous nationally-televised documentaries (i.e., Art Vessel, Improv island), a featured film (i.e., Sunbelt Express), and commercials (i.e., Mcdonalds, Coca-Cola, Swiffer, The Economist, ESPN, etc.). He has also performed in over 400+ jazz, classical, and world music festivals including Carnegie Hall, Tanglewood Festival, D.C. Jazz Festival, TEDx Talk, and NAMM Show (5x). Dr. Ruiz has performed numerous occasions with Chick Corea, Paquito D'Rivera, Alex Acuña, Jim Walker, Victor Wooten, John Clayton, Hubert Laws, just to name a few. His research has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals and presented in national music education conferences. He is CEO of JV Music Enterprises LLC., a successful indie production and publishing label, and serves as Global Ambassador & Strategic Communications Director for Trevor James Flutes & Saxophones UK Co., as he frequently provides workshops in universities, churches, and secondary schools in the U.S., Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Canada, and Latin America.

    Some of his accolades include: two Latin-GRAMMY® Award Nominations for Best Latin Jazz/Jazz Album and Best Instrumental Album, a Parents' Choice® Award; 49 DownBeat® Music Awards (record holder) for the categories of jazz group & soloist, studio & live engineered recording, Latin group, blues/pop/rock group and soloist, and Classical soloist; 3 COG Teen Talent Awards; a GOLD Medal Global Music Award®; Winner of Yamaha Young Performing Artist competition; and Winner of National Flute Association's Jazz Flute Soloist competition. He has 11 albums as a solo artist, as well as 43 albums as a producer and audio engineer for other artists. Dr. Ruiz is a voting member of the National Association or Recording Arts and Sciences, Latin Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, and Gospel Music Association. 

    Dr. Ruiz is most passionate about imparting experiential wisdom and applicable opportunities for music students at Lee University's School of Music. At Lee, his desire is to cultivate creative and artistic identity among students and help students express their calling as innovative music entrepreneurs for the betterment of society. Academically, Dr. Ruiz holds the four academic degree: a B.A. in Musical Studies (emphasis in Music Theory), a M.M. in Instrumental Performance (Classical & Studio Music/Jazz), a D.Min. in Global Missions, and a Ph.D. in Music Education (cognates in performance, applied-lesson pedagogy, and music production).
