The Department of Instrumental Music
Phillip Thomas, Ph.D.—Chair
The thrill of studying and performing instrumental music—from Bach and Beethoven to Messiaen, Holsinger and beyond—will form the core of your experience in the Department of Instrumental Music. With guidance from a talented and caring faculty, you will be encouraged to embrace a sense of stewardship, realizing that music and the ability to develop your talents are gifts from God.
In addition to courses in music theory, history, and literature, the Department offers a wide range of instruction in band, orchestral, and keyboard instruments, as well as the music component of the University's general education core. Instrumental Ensembles, available by audition to all students in the University, are also an integral component of students' creative, academic, and spiritual growth.
