Lee University Alumni have the opportunity to enjoy numerous events from casual dinners to exciting baseball games. These events allow our alums to connect with one another. Below are some of our past events. Don't forget to be on the look out for upcoming ones!
Let's BoxOn Saturday, January 19th alumni got together and learning the basics of boxing from Cleveland Mixed Martial Arts instructor Tommy Wales. This event was a blast and everyone had a great time. Testimonial from Lynda Cather: “I LOVED this event! It was a great work-out and totally FUN!!! Never thought I would do it, but all who were there were great and gracious!!! EXCELLENT!!!”
Pinterest PartyAn alumni party inspired by the famous social media site Pinterest! Alumni of all ages and their children created beautiful wreaths and enjoyed desserts and snacks from our Alumni Pinterest page.
Lee At-large Atlanta--Catalyst East LuncheonAfter hearing some of the best Christian speakers at Catalyst East in Atlanta, Lee alumni made a short walk across the street to the 1818 Club for a buffet lunch and shared stories and laughs with old friends.
Supporting a Lee Alum, we joined Bonlife owner, Jeremy Moore (’01), for an insightful evening of coffee, brew methods, and giveaways.
Lee At-large—Columbus, Ohio
The Alumni office packed up and made a trip to Columbus, Ohio for all the alumni in that area. This was an unforgettable event with food, a live band, and several giveaways. On September 15, I joined about 30 alumni for the 3rd annual “I went to Lee College in the 1970s” Braves game. This event, organized by alum Eddie Robbins, is always a treat. I began attending last year and meet new alumni faces each year! We all gather in the 755 Club at Turner Field to watch the Braves play. This year’s game was especially exciting as they were most likely post-season bound! I brought everyone an Alumni t-shirt as a token of thanks for taking time to re-connect with each other! I hope to continue making this event an annual occurrence.
Chattanooga Lookouts Game
In our second annual event, alumni came together in the “Dug-Out”, located right on the third base line and enjoyed hot dogs, hamburgers, and chicken fingers while enjoying the beautiful weather and watching the Chattanooga Lookouts play.
General Assembly Reception (combined local & Lee At-large event)
Lee Alumni Reception at the General Assembly What an amazing way for us all to see hundreds of our closest friends! Nearly 700 alumni joined us for the biannual Lee Alumni reception at the 2012 Church of God General Assembly in Orlando, FL. This popular event was Wednesday, July 25 at 9 pm in the Florida ballroom (rooms 1-4) of the Hilton Orlando. We will be at this same location for the 2014 Assembly (venue TBA). Stay tuned!
Alumni Family Night Picnic
An event for the whole family! Everyone came out for an entertaining picnic full of hamburgers, hot dogs, and all the sides to make for a wonderful dinner. The kids were entertained with inflatables, cotton candy, and snow cones on a warm June evening. After all the energy was exerted, we ushered everyone to the Dixon Center full of popcorn, drinks and an endless amounts of candy and prepared to watch Despicable Me.
Lee Alumni met for breakfast then followed hiking expert and Lee alum, Robin Taylor (‘84), on a day hike thru Cloudland Canyon State Park! On Saturday, May 19 at 7:30 am. Lee provided breakfast, lunch and transportation, and we met in Centenary Room of the Lee Administration Building for bagels and coffee at 7 am before heading out.
Lee At-large Nashville
Monday, April 2nd partnered with the Admissions Office to do a LinkUp in the Nashville area. This is a recruitment event but we thought it would be a good excuse to have dinner with area alumni. Here are the details:
Country Music Marathon & Pasta Pig-out
On Friday, April 27 at 6 pm (the night before Country Music Marathon in Nashville) the alumni office was again pleased to host this popular pre-run “carb load,” called “dinner” for us non-runners. This event always well attended (now in its 7th year!) and each year we have limited space at Buca di Beppo, so alumni always act fast to save a spot!!
Ocoee Dam Deli: Eat like a Man If ingredients like salt, butter, and biscuits make you happy, then dinner at the Ocoee Dam Deli was your favorite event so far. Established in 2005 by Johnny and Michelle Gorman, the Dam Deli is actually a full-blown restaurant that made you wonder why you’ve waited this long to eat there.
Lee At-large Atlanta on Tuesday, March 20 in the DoubleTree hotel ballroom in Marietta, GA. We met up with area alumni for some dinner preceding the LinkUp recruitment event. We encouraged alumni to also bring along any neighbors, friends, or family who were making that college decision.
Will and Estate Planning 101:Where there is a will there is a war: Estate Planning 101 || Lee alum and planned-giving expert, Paul Bowman (’94), gave us simple pointers for making sure our family and charitable interests are taken care of after we’re gone.
An evening with Rep. Kevin Brooks (’90)From the Alumni House to the State House: Q&A with Lee alum and State Representative, Kevin Brooks
We were very excited about this one! The Tennessee Legislature is in session and there are a lot of local issues being considered. Kevin Brooks (’90) agreed to spend the evening clearing up all misunderstandings, political and otherwise.
Lee At-large 1970’s alumni Braves game
This event was organized by members of the “I went to Lee College in the 70’s” group, but I was invited as an honorary member. It was a great time meeting some new people, and getting to know quite of a few of them much better! We stayed in the restaurant the entire time and were busy talking and laughing to notice much of the game (the men were probably a little more engaged).
Dunkin Donuts and stories from Cambodia trip
Enjoyed some goodies and heard all about Lee Alumni's recent trip to Cambodia! Fred Garmon, Executive Director of People for Care & Learning, came to give details about our partnership for Southeast Asia.
Dinner at O’Charley’s
We reserved the private room for a casual dinner fellowship for local alumni with appetizers on us! The atmosphere provided our alumni a way to connect with one another while enjoying a nice dinner and some laughs from old Vindagua pictures.
Chattanooga Lookouts Game
Alumni came together in the “Picnic Pavilion”, located right behind the outfield and enjoyed hot dogs, hamburgers, and chicken fingers while enjoying the beautiful weather and watching the Chattanooga Lookouts play.
Lee Alumni go to Cambodia!http://webpages.leeu.edu/alumni/
The Alumni Office and 13 Lee alumni went to Cambodia with Fred Garmon and People for Care and Learning. Alumni virtually traveled alongside us to visit and work in Bangkok, Thailand, Siem Reap, and Cambodia. Each day we blogged, posted video journals, and updated alumni through the Alumni Facebook & Twitter pages.
Family Night Picnic & Movie
An event for the whole family! Everyone came out for an entertaining picnic full of BBQ, and brought sides to make for a wonderful dinner. The kids were entertained with inflatables and whiffle ball on a warm May evening. Later, we all settled in to watch “Toy Story” via projector and screen on the lawn in front of the Alumni house.
Lee At-large: Alumni Luncheon at Mount Paran Central
Sunday, May 1, 2011 Luncheon for all Lee alumni in the Atlanta area immediately following the Lee Singers in the morning service.
Country Music Marathon & Pasta Pig-out On Friday, April 29 at 6 pm (the night before Country Music Marathon in Nashville) the alumni office was again pleased to host this popular pre-run “carb load,” called “dinner” for us non-runners. This event always well attended (now in its 7th year!) and each year we have limited space at Buca di Beppo, so alumni always act fast to save a spot!!
Lee Big 80’s gathering (Lee At-large Atlanta event)
Sat. April 30, 2011 What an amazing weekend of reconnecting with our alumni in Atlanta. I was given the opportunity to meet several alumni as well as get better acquainted with a lot more. We gathered at an alum’s condo event room for dinner and games!
Lee At-large "Link Up" alumni dinnersThe alumni office partnered with the Admissions Office to host four LinkUp events during Spring Break 2011. This is a recruitment event, but we thought it would be a good excuse to have dinner with area alumni. Over the course of one week, we traveled with the Admissions team to Cincinnati, Memphis, Nashville and Atlanta. What a fantastic time of meeting new faces and seeing old friends!
Alumni Fitness ClassOur March, Clevelanders, etc. event featured a “How-to” fitness clinic with Lee alum and local fitness guru Johnny Clemons! He demonstrated great cross training/fitness techniques to get us ready for warmer weather. Johnny is a certified trainer and an expert in health and fitness and complimentary for each local alum. It was definitely something for everyone, no matter the experience level.
Dinner at FulinsWhat a great inaugural local event we had! Excellent representation of alumni from all ages, from the Class of 1955 to 2010! It was wonderful times of fellowship for everyone-pictures from the night have already been posted to the Lee University alumni Facebook page. This inaugural local event has created great buzz among other Clevelanders for next month’s event!
Sushi RollingOur Clevelander’s, etc. event for February catered to those who love to cook, and what could be more interesting than learning to roll your own sushi?! We booked Sodexo’s Executive Chef for a fun night of creating California and Philadephia sushi rolls! This event was in the President’s Dining Room on Lee’s campus, and each attendee received a recipe book filled with our featured items and note space. We look forward to repeating this event soon!
