On Thursday, Nov. 15, high school students representing 25
schools across five states will attend Lee University to
participate in Honor Band 2012. These 84 students will be under the
baton of Dr. David Holsinger, conductor of the Lee University Wind
Ensemble and well-respected composer.
The band will begin rehearsing Thursday evening and continue
through Saturday morning. The weekend will culminate with a concert
given by the Honor Band on Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. in the
The program will be selected from the following: "By the Light
of the Polar Star" by John Philip Sousa, "Black Granite" by James
L. Hosay, "American Faces" and "Solemn Hymn and Rowdy Dances" by
David R. Holsinger, "Lux Aurumque" by Eric Whitacre, and "Golden
Plume" by Will Huff.
Selection for the band was made with information submitted by
the students as well as recommendations from their individual band
directors. This is the 12th year for the Lee
University Honor Band.
On Friday evening, Nov. 16, the Honor Band participants will be
given a concert by the Lee University Symphonic Band, the Jazz
Ensemble, and the Wind Ensemble. This concert will begin at
7:30 p.m. at the Conn Center.
The public is invited to attend both the Friday evening and the
