Small Jazz Ensemble Concert this Tuesday

Lee University’s School of Music will present the Small Jazz Ensemble concert on Tuesday, April 29 at 7:30 p.m. in the Dixon Center.
Music for the evening will be provided by the Small Jazz Ensemble, Small Group Jazz Combo #1, and Small Group Jazz Combo #2, all directed by Shawn Perkinson, instructor of guitar at Lee. Alan Wyatt, assistant professor of music, also directs combo #1 and #2.
The concert includes selections from the music of Miles Davis, Joe Henderson, Sonny Rollins, Chick Corea, and Horace Silver.
The program will feature performances by Joey Archer, Michael Bailey, Clay Butler, Zach Callahan, Kyle Davidson, Aaron Dick, Alex Frye, Tyler Hatmaker, Paul Hayes, Richard Henson, Trey Phillips, Hamilton Provonsha, Jonathan Robbins, Ben Sosebee, Drew Strike, Josia Sytsma, and Andrew Thomas.
Perkinson is a former member of “Kings of the Killer Fish” and has opened shows for Jerry Garcia Band, Wide Spread Panic, Charlie Daniels Band and performed at the 1997 MTV Spring Break Show in Panama City. He has also released two Jazz albums with the E.M.P. project, one in 2003 and another in 2005.
Wyatt has shared the stage with several artists including Frank Sinatra, Jr., The Temptations, The Four Tops, Tito Puente, Jr., Natalie Cole, Manhattan Transfer, Melissa Manchester, Doc Severinsen, Hank Jones, and Clay Aiken among others. Wyatt has also toured with the Dorsey Brothers Orchestra, Tommy Dorsey Orchestra and the Knoxville Jazz Orchestra. Wyatt is also a featured soloist on KJO recordings Progressive Jazz 2009 and Fleet Street highlighting the original compositions/re-imaginations of composer Terry Vosbein.
The concert is a free, non-ticketed event, and the community is welcome to attend.
