English major with literature and writing emphasis
Class of Fall 2019
Garrett Mikulka of Shelbyville, Tennessee, enjoys going to as many concerts as he can, but, as any good English major would, usually has a book with him.
Garrett, twice published poet to the Lee Review, served one year as a Resident Assistant and is also involved in the English honor society, Sigma Tau Delta.
“It’s a great group of people who share similar goals and interests,” says Garrett on his time in the honor society. “I enjoy being a part of the only club on campus that believes ‘Night of the Living Read’ is a pun worth making for a Halloween party.”
Garrett has also served as a working student to Dr. Chad Schrock, associate professor of English, since his sophomore year.
“The relationships I’ve formed with faculty members have shaped me more than anything else,” said Garrett. “They’ve always been willing to push and encourage me.”
After graduation, Garrett plans to study medieval literature in graduate school and eventually become an English professor.
