Lee University and COVID-19 (Coronavirus)
Our approach to COVID protocols is twofold:
First, we diligently monitor available information from the most credible sources, primarily local and state health departments, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), with close review of the guidelines for higher education.
Second, we use the informat ion and trends available to make the best decisions about campus operations, maintaining the primary concern for the health and safety of our students, employees, and community.
Our plan for operations balances the current information and the goal of operating as normally as possible. The university reserves the right to adjust this plan as the situation changes to maintain a safe environment for everyone.
For general questions you can contact the Office of the Provost by calling (423) 614-8118 or emailing Academic Affairs
2022 - 2023 Guidelines
We encourage individuals who have been away from campus to take a test before coming back. This could prevent the spread of COVID as individuals return from various locations. At-home tests are available in most locations. Do not return to campus if you test positive or are experiencing symptoms. You may call the Health Clinic for professional guidance related to your health situation. If you have concerns about delayed return, make sure to email your professors regarding your delay.
Classrooms will remain at full capacity; however, options for greater distancing may be utilized where necessary.
Masks are no longer required on campus, outside or indoors; however, high quality masks, when worn properly, can help protect individuals from COVID and other viruses. Please consider wearing masks when experiencing symptoms, returning from isolation, or if you are at risk of infection because of health conditions.
Non-vaccinated individuals are encouraged to consider wearing masks when indoors and in close proximity to others.
Everyone is encouraged to self-monitor for symptoms and to seek medical attention when symptoms are evid ent. Frequent handwashing protocols are also encouraged.
It is the responsibility of the student to communicate with professors of their situation. It is the responsibility of each professor to make reasonable accommodations to facilitate learning. If you feel as though you are not being reasonably accommodated, you may contact the dean of the respective school by which the course is offered.
We are not accepting Zoom-only petitions as we did last year. However, if students have health/medical reasons that require virtual learning, we will work to make accommodations (for example, online course options) on a case-by-case basis. These requests should be sent to the Office of the Provost by calling (423) 614-8118 or by emailing [email protected].
We recommend that all students and employees consider the vaccination unless they have health conditions that may make the vaccine unsafe for them. For up-to-date vaccination guidance, visit the CDC’s COVID vaccination page.
The university assumes for each student a posture of personal responsibility in light of positive COVID-19 tests. There will be no contact tracing or required quarantine for individuals exposed to COVID-19. Individuals who test positive for COVID-19 are expected to self-manage and self-isolate to prevent exposure to our campus community according to CDC guidance regarding isolation. Individuals who reside within two hours of the university will be encouraged to isolate at their homes. The university will have limited housing available to accommodate students who are unable to isolate off campus. Students entering isolation may contact the Office of Residential Life & Housing.

Chapel services will take place in Conn Center with simultaneous offerings in Dixon Center or The Chapel on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Chapel seating has returned to full capacity, and masks are no longer required. To receive chapel credit, students must attend in person.
Lee University deeply values the richness brought to our campus life by neighbors, community partners, and visitors. We do ask that anyone who has recently had a positive COVID-19 test result, experienced COVID-19 symptoms, or been exposed to someone with COVID-19 refrain from coming to campus in order to prevent possible exposure to our campus family.
Visitors planning to tour campus a re encouraged to contact the Campus Visit Coordinator at (423) 614-8504 to schedule a tour or a more extensive visit.
Individually arranged travel by students during the semester is unrestricted, with an encouragement to be aware of conditions and protocols in various destinations. We want our students to represent the university well in other places, while we hope they will protect themselves from COVID-19 away from campus and help protect our campus community upon their return.
University-sponsored domestic and international travel will proceed consistent with CDC guidelines and with recommended guidance from U.S. State Department Travel Advisories. A testing protocol may be required before and/or during group travel, depending on the group and the destination. Similarly, vaccination requirements for international travel are determined by the country of destination.
