Walker Receives Lee University’s Excellence in Advising Award
Lee University’s Dr. Justin Walker, assistant professor of Old Testament and Christian Ministries, has been named the winner of the 2024 Excellence in Advising Award. Walker was recognized for this honor during Commencement earlier this month.
“I’m honored to receive this award, and I find great joy in helping students discover their God-given passions and calling,” said Walker. “I’m humbled to be acknowledged in this way and hope for continued opportunities to partner with students in pursuing the ‘good works’ prepared in advance for them to do.”
Walker joined the School of Theology & Ministry faculty in 2019. He has also recently served as an adjunct professor for Columbia Theological Seminary, Candler School of Theology, Richmont Graduate University, and Georgia Christian University, teaching a variety of biblical and ministerial courses.
Prior to Lee, Walker served for 10 years in a variety of ministerial roles at Mount Paran North Church of God in Georgia. His research focuses on biblical poetry, ancient Near Eastern iconography, and Old Testament Theology. He is the author of “The Power of Images: The Poetics of Violence in Lamentations 2 and Ancient Near Eastern Art” and is currently composing the Lamentations volume for the Old Testament Theology series.
The Excellence Awards are the highest honors presented to Lee faculty members. The recipient of the Excellence in Advising Award is chosen by a faculty committee, which reviews a three-year history of student advisor evaluation data, as well as other information provided by the nominating department chairs and deans.
One student said of Walker, “He goes out of his way to be sure each student is well prepared and knowledgeable with both upcoming and current courses, and he makes us feel seen and cared for throughout our time at Lee.”
Walker earned his Doctor of Philosophy in Hebrew Bible/Old Testament from Emory University, his Master of Theology and his Master of Divinity from Candler School of Theology, and his Bachelor of Arts from Lee.
He and his wife Amanda are the parents of three children, Kennedy, Judah, and Micah.
