Residential Life Frequently Asked Questions
For the inevitable questions that arise concerning student housing, the following has been prepared for your convenience. Each link below leads to a section with information that you may find helpful. Curfew is checked for all freshmen (29 hours or fewer) nightly by a Resident Assistant. Students 20 years of age or older do not have curfew.
Freshmen curfew hours are as follows:
Sunday-Thursday 12:00 Midnight
Friday and Saturday 1:00 a.m.
Special accommodations should be communicated to the Admissions Office upon applying to the University. Please email [email protected] for housing accommodations paperwork.
In the community style residence halls (Medlin, Simmons, and Nora Chambers) students share a community bathroom (with privacy separators) located on each floor. In the suite style residence halls (Atkins-Ellis, Cross, Davis, Sharp, Tharp, New Hughes, O’Bannon and Bowdle) two rooms are connected by one bathroom, with four people sharing each bathroom. In the apartment style (B.L. Hicks, Keeble, Livingston, and Storms Hall) there is a bathroom for every two students. In Brinsfield Row, Livingston East, and Dirksen Row, four students share a full bath and a half bath.
Students with fewer than 30 cumulative credit hours (not including Summer Honors, Dual Enrollment or AP/CLEP credits) and live on-campus are required to participate in a university meal plan.
Students of the opposite sex are allowed in the main lobbies of the dormitories until curfew. Members of the opposite sex will not be permitted beyond the lobby of any dorm or in the bedroom of any apartment unless given permission from the Resident Director. This policy applies during all breaks as well. Brinsfield Row, Dirksen Row, Livingston East, Livingston, Keeble, Storms and B.L. Hicks- Male/Female visitors will be allowed to visit in the apartment living room on the following days and times only:
Monday-Thursday: 3:00-10:00 p.m.
Friday & Saturday: Noon-1:00 a.m.
Sunday: Noon-10:00 p.m.

- The following residence halls (Cross, Davis, New Hughes, Tharp, Simmons, Sharp) have lounges which include:

- Most food preparation appliances (except for a refrigerator and small microwave, limits apply). George Foreman grills, toaster ovens, crock pots, and electric tea kettles may be stored in the rooms but can only be used in designated kitchen areas
- Coffee pots and full-size Keurigs are not permitted in traditional-style residence halls. They are, however, permitted in the apartment-style residence halls which include kitchens. Mini-Keurigs that do not include a hot plate or water reservoir are permissible in traditional-style residence halls
- Floor-standing speakers and subwoofers
- Concrete blocks of any kind
- Candles, incense, and wax warmers

The University rents high quality factory-made wooden single lofts that are designed specifically for the bed (XL twin size) in each hall. Bed lofts are rented for the entire academic school year for $250. There are a limited number of bed lofts available; therefore, bed lofts will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, dependent upon the receipt of your online Bed Loft Request form and $250 rental fee (due no later than August 1).

Bed Loft Request Form
In order to comply with required safety standards, the University cannot permit residents to construct their own bed lofts for use in the residence halls. The only bed lofts permitted in the residence halls are those provided by the University through the bed loft reservation process.
- The student assumes all related risks and responsibilities of using a bed loft.
- The University does not sell, endorse, or permit the use of bed lofts sold by private vendors or personally constructed bed lofts in any University residence hall.
- University bed lofts are non-transferable to other students.
- Each resident must submit their own bed loft request. Students may not make requests for their roommates.
- New and transfer students may not request a bed loft until they have been officially accepted to Lee University and the Office of Residential Life and Housing has received their $200 housing deposit.
GUIDELINES/SPECIFICATIONS
- Flammable decorative materials, such as paneling, netting, curtains, etc., are not to be attached to the loft.
- A bed loft must not block a potential fire exit, including window(s) and doors. An access lane to the window, at least as wide as the doorway, must be unblocked and uncovered at all times.
