Every individual who maintains or operates a motor vehicle on the Lee University campus must register each vehicle with the Department of Campus Security at the beginning of the semester or within 24 hours of the vehicle being brought to campus. The parking fee is $40 per year and is included on the student bill. Replacement permits are also $40 each.

The vehicle’s State Registration with license plate number, current housing assignment, and driver’s contact information are required for registration of the vehicle. A photo of the license plate is also acceptable for registering a vehicle.

Students are assigned a specific parking lot(s) designated by their parking permit. Parking is on a first-come, first-served basis. Regular patrols are made of the parking areas, and vehicles illegally parked or parked in a lot not designated on their permit will be subject to a citation. Being assigned to a specific lot does not assure the student of a parking space in that lot. This also does not give permission for a student to park in an unauthorized space or parking lot. If you have any other questions concerning parking please contact the Department of Campus Security at 423-303-4444.

Beginning in August, vehicles may be registered in person at the Department of Campus Security located at 1000 Barnes Street NE. Students may also register a vehicle online by clicking here.

You will receive a confirmation email with pick up instructions from the Department of Campus Security when your request has been completed. For further information, you may contact the Department of Campus Security at (423) 303-4444.

Students will find that all North, Central, and South parking lots will be marked with signs at each entry.

Regular patrols are made of the parking areas. Vehicles that are found illegally parked or parked in a lot not designated on their permit will be subject to a citation. Vehicles parked in handicap spaces without proper authorization or in fire lanes will be fined more severely or towed. This offense may also result in being cited by law enforcement. If vehicles are found parked in a no-parking zone or blocking dumpsters, driveways or other vehicles, they are subject to being towed. Commercial towing companies are permitted under law to charge a full towing fee when they attach a vehicle to the wrecker even if the vehicle is not moved.

The university is not responsible for vehicle damage incurred while parked on Lee University property.

Although Lee University prides itself on safety and security, the need has been known to arise for students to require a "Safety Ride" from place to place. Campus Security is more than willing to come to the aid of any and all Lee students. With a ten-minute notification (before a "Safety Ride" is needed), students have the ability to be escorted from parking lots to the residence halls.

In order to better serve our faculty, staff and students, a centralized location has been designated for all “lost and found” items. Items that are found should be turned into the Campus Security Office, located at 680 Church Street.

Items will be inventoried and securely stored, and attempts will be made to contact the owner of the property. Lost and found items are kept for a period of “two years” after which they are purged. For inquiries or to search for missing belongings, please visit the Campus Security Office on Church Street or call (423) 303-4444.

The CLERY Act requires all colleges and universities that participate in federal financial aid programs to keep and disclose information about crime on and near their respective campuses.

The daily crime log is for the sole purpose of recording alleged criminal incidents that are reported to Campus Security. It is not to be a catch-all incident log. (Example: if a student reports losing her wallet in the parking lot behind a dorm, it is not a criminal incident, and there is no requirement to record it in the log).

Lee University is not required to update the disposition of a crime log entry after 60 days have passed. This means 60 days after the entry was made in the log, not 60 days after the crime occurred.

The crime log for the most recent 60-day period must be open to public inspection, upon request, during normal business hours. Anyone may ask to see the log, whether or not they are associated with Lee University. Any portion of the log that is older than 60 days must be made available within two business days of a request for public inspection. Lee University must provide students and employees with a description of the log, noting its location and availability.

Crime logs must be kept for three years following the publication of the last annual security report to which they apply (in effect, seven years). The crime log itself is not submitted to ED, although Campus Security must produce it during an audit or review.

Clery Act Annual Security and Fire Safety Report

NOTE: Lee University is required, pursuant to the Federal Student Right to Know and Campus Security Act of 1990 (20 USCS § 1092), to prepare, publish, and distribute an annual safety report containing information with respect to the campus security policies and campus crime statistics of the institution. To comply with this Federal requirement, the Lee University Department of Campus Security publishes various crime awareness and campus safety brochures and reports. To obtain copies of any of these publications, please contact the Department of Campus Security.

Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery)

What Is The Clery Act?

In 1990, Congress enacted the Crime Awareness and Campus Security Act (Title II of Public Law 101-542), which amended the Higher Education Act of 1965 (HEA). This act required all postsecondary institutions participating in Title IV student financial aid programs to disclose campus crime statistics and security information. This act was amended in 1992, 1998, and 2000. The 1998 amendments renamed the law the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. In memory of a student who was slain in her dorm room in 1986.

What Does This Mean?

The Clery Act requires all higher education institutions to give timely warnings of crimes that represent a threat to the safety of students or employees and to make public their campus security policies. It also requires that crime data are to be collected, reported, and disseminated to the campus community and are also submitted to ED. This act is intended to provide students and their families, as higher education consumers, with accurate, complete, and timely information about safety on campus so that they can make informed decisions.

What Lee University Is obligated to Do?

To be in compliance with Clery Act regulations, Lee University has several obligations. These fall into three main categories:

  • Policy disclosure
  • Records collection and retention
  • Information dissemination

All Crime Statistics associated with Clery can be found under the Crime Statistics tab.

The Department of Campus Security offers a variety of services to accompany the needs of the University's community. The following is a list of services our offices provide.

ID Cards

The Department of Campus Security issues ID cards to students, faculty, and staff of Lee University. These cards are used as photo ID, access cards to dorms, to store Meal Plan information, for Library usage, chapel attendance credit, and proof of status for merchant discounts. The first ID card issued is free. If a card is lost or intentionally destroyed, the fee for replacement is $10.

Motor Vehicle Registration & Parking

Every individual who maintains or operates a motor vehicle on the Lee University campus must register each vehicle with the Department of Campus Security at the beginning of the semester or within 24 hours of the vehicle being brought to campus.  The parking fee is $40 per year and is included on the student bill.  Replacement permits are also $40 each.

The vehicle’s State Registration with license plate number and driver’s contact information are required for registration of the vehicle.  A photo of the license plate is also acceptable for registering a vehicle.

Students are assigned a specific parking lot(s) designated by their parking permit tag. Parking is on a first-come, first-served basis. Regular patrols are made of the parking areas, and vehicles illegally parked are ticketed. Being assigned to a specific lot does not assure the student of a parking space in that lot. This also does not give permission for a student to park in an unauthorized space or parking lot.

Students parking in handicap spaces and fire lanes will be fined more severely or towed and may be ticketed by local law enforcement. Vehicles parked in a no-parking zone or blocking dumpsters, driveways, or automobiles are subject to being towed. Commercial towing companies are permitted under law to charge a full towing fee when they attach a vehicle to the wrecker even if the vehicle is not moved. The University is not responsible for damage incurred to a vehicle while parked on Lee University property.

Beginning in August, vehicles may be registered in person at the Campus Security office located on campus at 1000 Barnes Street NE.  Students may also register a vehicle in advance by filling out the Vehicle Registration Form.  You will receive a confirmation email from Campus Security and notification when your permit has been processed.
