The Academic Coordinator (AC) will report to the Director of the TRIO Program. The Academic Coordinator will coordinate academic support services for LEAP, a federal grant-funded TRIO Student Support Services program. The AC is responsible for coordinating tutoring, course selection and advising, career exploration, employment preparation and graduate school enrollment assistance. The AC will manage LEAP academic assessments, cohort course scheduling, and supervise the LEAP Math Tutor. This person will assist the director with the provision of other LEAP services, as well as the identification, selection, assessment and monitoring of participants. The AC will provide individualized counseling to 40-45 students. The goal of this program is to help students achieve academic success and retain them through graduation.
The Academic Coordinator will also coordinate tutoring services for the university.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Adhere to LEAP TRIO Time and Effort requirements.
- Assist students in the LEAP office during working hours.
- Be available for LEAP evening and weekend functions.
- Maintain courteous and hospitable relations with community, LU faculty and staff, and students.
- Attend and participate in LEAP staff meetings.
- Submit reports.
- Attend LEAP trainings as required.
- Assist and attend the set-up and clean-up of LEAP Start, Orientation, Assembly, Workshops, Excursions, and Events.
- Read and maintain knowledge of LEAP Grant, student contracts, student forms
- Be efficient in Excel, Portico and Colleague management systems.
- Attend and assist with set-up, and clean-up of LEAP Start, Orientation, Assembly, Workshops, Excursions, Receptions, and Events.
- Coordinate receipt and distribution of all academic alerts from coordinating university personnel
- Coordinate with the HUB on tutoring accommodations
- Supervise LEAP tutors
- Plan cohort course selection
- Coordinate services for career exploration and graduate school enrollment assistance
- Assist the Director with the identification, selection, assistance and monitoring of participants
- Provide additional support to Director to maintain all electronic and paper records
- Provide individualized coaching to 40-45 students.
- Submit required coaching up-dates.
- Other activities as directed by the supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated understanding and commitment to addressing the special needs of SSS-eligible and diverse student populations
- Detail-oriented approach to maintaining accuracy in records
- Training or knowledge of curriculum development and learning theories preferred.
- Ability to be flexible, problem-solve and multi-task
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Master’s degree required, with preference in Education, Counseling, Psychology or related field
- One year teaching or experience providing academic support services required; three years in higher education setting preferred.
- Tutoring experience required; in higher education setting preferred.
- Experience developing group learning programs for students in a higher education setting preferred.
- Demonstrated experience working with low-income students, first-generation students and/or students with disabilities.
- Experience maintaining confidential documents and records required.
