Strategic application for planned healthcare clinics and outreach brigades, including simulated experiences.

This course places an emphasis on development of a comprehensive plan for the healthcare disaster response and management immersion experience.

This course is a focused team experience including extensive mock scenarios designed to instruct students to work safely and effectively in unstable and dangerous environments and to serve those suffering from effects of disaster. Requirs one week, 24/7, off-campus experience with on-campus immediate deployment preparation and post-experience debriefing.

Preparation of management for special occurrences related to mass casualty, terrorism, bioterrorism, shootings, healthcare epidemics, and working in areas of armed conflict. A course that presents elementary concepts of scientific methodology and discusses issues relevant to understanding the natural environment and human activity. Scientific, political, and socioeconomic aspects of human activity related to the environment will be introduced and examined. This course will aim toward instilling an understanding of how and what scientifically-based points of view have contributed to the current climate of discussion regarding the environment. This course will emphasize the development of critical thinking as well as investigative and comprehension skills. Requires co-requisite enrollment in BIOS-112L. Open to non-science majors only.

This course focuses on how best to secure nonprofit revenues through fundraising strategies in consideration of transformational and engaged philanthropy. The organization and development of a strategic fundraising plan will be examined within the context of the organization's mission, vision, strategic plan, and organizational capacity. The role of the board, staff, and fund development volunteers will also be addressed.

This course examines the issues of securing and allocating financial resources in response to a crisis such as a natural disaster.  Topics include budget analysis, budget development, cost and revenue estimation, variance analysis, and strategies for budget execution and evaluation.

Response to disaster-related issues, disaster culture, social vulnerability, economic and political impact, disruption of social life in society, and community resilience.
