Brendel to Present Faculty Recital Tuesday
The Lee University School of Music will present Dr. Chery Brendel, soprano, in a faculty recital on Tuesday, Sept. 6, at 7:30 p.m. in the Squires Recital Hall, located in Lee’s Humanities Center.
The evening’s performance will include works by composers such as Beydts, Schubert, Syzmanowski, and Vivaldi.
Brendel is a singer and a teacher of singing. At Lee, she serves as an assistant professor of voice in the School of Music and as the vocal coach/musical director for LeeU Theatre. She has maintained a steady career as a performer in a variety of styles and repertoire in the United States and Europe. She has taught studio voice at the university level for three decades and is proficient in classical and commercial pedagogies.
Brendel began her singing career as a CCM/Gospel artist and later turned almost exclusively to classical repertoire. Opera roles to her credit include Königen der Nacht (Die Zauberflöte, Mozart), La Fée (Cendrillion, Massenet), Kathie (The Student Prince, Lehar), Adina (L’elisir d’amore, Donizetti) Despina (Cosi fan tutte, Mozart) and Laetitia (The Old Maid and the Thief, Menotti), among others. Brendel’s chief career focus has been assisting undergraduate and graduate level singers in finding their voices and preparing for a lifetime of singing.
Brendel received her Doctor of Musical Arts in voice performance from the University of Georgia, her Master of Music in voice performance from Temple University, and a Bachelor of Music in voice performance from Evangel University.
Joining her for the Tuesday evening concert will be guest performers Aner Luo, violin; Dr. Amy Humberd, clarinet; and Mary Beth Wickes, piano.
The event is free, non-ticketed, and open to the public. Livestream viewing will be available at leeu.live.
