Candy Carson to Visit Campus Monday
Lee University is pleased to host Candy Carson, wife of presidential candidate Ben Carson, from 11 a.m. to noon on Monday, Feb. 29, to talk about “family, life, politics, and other small topics.” The event will take place in the Walker Lecture Hall located in the Science and Math Complex.
“Mrs. Carson has had an extraordinary life, going from the inner-city streets of Detroit, to the halls of Yale University, to a Presidential campaign,” said Jerome Hammond, the Vice President for University Relations. “She is exactly the kind of person we want Lee students to meet.”
Mrs. Carson’s recent book, “A Doctor in the House” contains the colorful details of her unlikely journey, including her life with the celebrated neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson, candidate for the 2016 GOP nomination. “The calling of a neurosurgeon isn’t easy to live out,” she writes in her upcoming memoir. “The life of a neurosurgeon’s wife isn’t much easier. But it’s been worth it all.”
The Carsons met at Yale University and have stayed together through triumph and tragedy, creating an inspirational story of overcoming odds. While at Yale Mrs. Carson triple-majored in music, psychology and pre-med. She also holds an MBA from Johns Hopkins Carey Business School. Candy is a former concert violinist and the coauthor of four books with Dr. Carson. Together Ben and Candy founded the Carson Scholars Fund, an endowment that “rewards young people for exceptional academic and humanitarian accomplishments.”
The Monday event is free and open to the public.
