CRC to Compete for Moonshot Award
Lee University’s CRC to Compete for Moonshot Award Lee University’s Center for Responsible Citizenship (CRC) has once again been nominated for a Moonshot Award for “Excellence in University Center Innovation.” The winner will be selected at the Mercatus Center’s annual summit in Arlington, Virginia, at the end of the month.
The objective of the Moonshot Award is to “inspire innovative thinking and programming among university-based centers, institutes, and programs that seek to advance human flourishing,” said Ben Klutsey, director of academic outreach at Mercatus. Last year, Lee’s CRC was selected by popular vote among other center leaders, winning the $10,000 prize.
CRC Program Director Dr. Thomas Pope and Program Coordinator Audrey Haley will present their Moonshot project at the summit. “We are delighted to have been nominated for the award again this year,” said Haley. “It is an honor to be recognized on a national level for the work we are doing here in Cleveland. Last year, the award allowed us to reach an even larger and more diverse audience, helping us reach the needs of our community and start our first annual student research scholarship. We are beyond thankful to present our work again this year.”
The Center for Responsible Citizenship aims to cultivate a healthy vision of political life, where “politics” is a framework of dialogue, mores, and institutions that teach what it means to pursue the good life, together. This study is guided and informed by a deep commitment to the Christian faith, which understands the human good as connected to a robust vision of persons made in the image of God.
August marks the CRC’s two-year anniversary at Lee University. This year, the CRC will host its 13th annual Constitution Day Quiz Bowl for regional high school students on September 15 and an intercollegiate symposium on faith and political life in October.
