Graham to Lecture on Higher Education on April 7
Dr. Robert Graham, provost and vice president
of academic affairs at Grove City College, will present, “Are We Worried Yet?
A Provost (and Sociologist) Considers the Future of Christian Higher
Education.” The lecture and group discussion will take place Tuesday, April 7,
5:30-6:30 p.m. in Humanities Center, Room 201.
Graham has been
Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs at two Christian colleges,
including his current position at Grove City College and previously at
Waynesburg University. Grove City College is one of the few colleges in the
nation that does not accept federal funding. He will speak on the mission of
Christian higher education, and the pressures and temptations to compromise its
faith position. Federal funding is only one of the “levers” used by
government to enforce compliance and change the nature of institutions,
according to Graham.
Prior to serving as provost, Graham was
department chair of the behavioral sciences at Lee University. He earned his
doctorate in sociology from the University of Cincinnati, his master’s of
gerontology studies from Miami University, and bachelor’s in sociology from
Lee. He also served as president of the Association of Christians Teaching
Sociology.
Graham is married to Cheryl, who received her
undergraduate and graduate music degree from Lee.
Graham’s visit to
the campus is sponsored by Alpha Kappa Delta (AKD) International, the
sociology honor society, and the Ollie J. Lee Academic Sociology Fund. Graham
will also be the guest speaker for the induction banquet of new AKD members.
