NCR Names 14 Rugby Players Scholastic All-Americans

Athletics, Student Success

Fourteen Lee University women rugby players have been named Scholastic All-Americans by National Collegiate Rugby (NCR).

This NCR annual program recognizes high performing student athletes across college rugby. Growing by 60% since last year, the Scholastic All-American list includes 238 women and 522 men from over 148 schools.

To qualify as a Scholastic All-American, student athletes must maintain a 3.5 GPA or higher for the academic year and be rostered for 50% of the Fall 15s A-side matches or rostered for 50% of the A-side Spring 7s tournaments. This selective group of Scholastic All-Americans represents about 1 out of 20 student athletes competing in college rugby.

“This is a fantastic honor for our women’s program,” said Kevin Hudson, director of campus recreation at Lee. “We are grateful the NCR makes recognizing club sport athletes a priority. These ladies were wonderful representatives of Lee University in a historic season, and we could not be more proud of them.”

Lee Scholastic All-Americans include Emma Kinzel, Attaya Lafayette, Alexis Lillycrop, Siena Macy, Eliana Miller, Alena Seaquist, Phoebe Stefanick, Colleen Thomas, Chloe Valentine, Elizabeth Vogt, Reyna Whitaker, Megan Winne, Alyssa Woody, and Ava Zopf.

“Coach Chris Martin deserves much of the credit for the success of the Women’s Rugby program, and the number of academic honorees demonstrates that the excellence was infused through all areas of the program,” said Hudson.

Commenting on this year’s Scholastic All-Americans, NCR’s Chief Executive Officer Jeremy Treece said, “We are excited to celebrate such a large number of high-achieving student athletes this year. Congratulations to this distinguished group of students who have demonstrated a high level of dedication and commitment to scholastic excellence.”

The Lee Women’s Rugby team was officially established in the spring of 2007 and competes on the national level, competing with both small and large colleges.

Founded in 2007, NCR is committed to the growth and development of collegiate rugby teams, student-athletes, and coaches. For more information, visit ncr.rugby/.
