Opera Theatre to Present Musical Revue
The Lee University Opera Theatre, directed by James Frost, will present its Musical Revue on Sunday, Nov. 14, at 3 p.m. The performance will take place in the Buzz Oates Theatre, located in the Communication Arts Building, on Lee’s campus.
Lee Opera Theatre joins over 2,500 theatrical organizations from all 50 states and over 40 countries in producing its own production of Music Theatre International’s “All Together Now!: A Global Event Celebrating Local Theatre.” Theatrical licensor Music Theatre International (MTI) created this revue for theatres across the globe to use as a local fundraising event performed over the same weekend.
A variety of songs are featured in this brand-new musical revue from shows including “Come from Away,” “Fiddler on the Roof,” “Into the Woods,” “Les Misérables,” “Little Shop of Horrors,” “Little Women,” and “Rent.”
“We are excited to be a part of this worldwide musical event!” said Frost, associate professor of voice at Lee. “The past year has shown us more clearly just how globally interconnected we are. Even though the pandemic is still affecting us, we are hopeful that our performance will bring some joy to our audience.”
The performance will be accompanied by a small instrumental combo, led by staff accompanist Mathew Zalusky. The musical preparation was overseen by Dr. ChoEun Lee, assistant professor of collaborative piano and vocal coaching.
Opera Theatre began in the spring of 1998 as a workshop and has grown into a production organization performing a Musical Revue in the fall semester, a fully-staged opera from both standard and less traditional repertoire in February, and an opera scenes program during the spring semester.
The performance is free and open to the public, but due to limited seating, tickets will be required. They can be reserved at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/lee-university-opera-a-musical-revue-tickets-203363534807.
