School of Music to Host Honor Band Concerts
Lee University’s School of Music will present the Honor Band Collage Concert on Friday, Nov. 18, at 7:30 p.m., and the Honor Band Student Concert on Saturday, Nov. 19, at 1 p.m. Performances will be held in Lee’s Conn Center.
The Honor Band will perform pieces by David Holsinger, Mahler, Shabazz, Saucedo, and Swearingen. Holsinger, an artist-in-residence in Lee’s School of Music, will be guest conducting one piece.
Joel Denton, a highly respected honor band director and adjunct professor of music education at Lee University, will serve as the clinician for the concert.
Lee students will perform at the Honor Band Collage Concert on Friday. The performance will feature Lee’s Symphonic Band, directed by Dr. Mark Bailey; the Jazz Ensemble, directed by Alan Wyatt; and the Wind Ensemble, directed by Holsinger.
Honor Band participants include 78 students selected from 25 high schools in five states. These students were chosen based on information submitted by the students and recommendations from their individual band directors.
“These students are a pleasure to have on campus.,” said Winona Holsinger, director of instrumental projects. “They play well, rehearse hard, and are great students. We always enjoy hosting this event.”
Both concerts are free, non-ticketed, and open to the public.
