School of Music to Host Honor Band Weekend

Sixty-one high school students representing 27 schools from seven states will arrive at Lee University this week for Honor Band 2016 and will present a concert on Saturday, Nov. 19, at 1 p.m. in the Conn Center.
Dr. David Holsinger, director of the Lee University Wind Ensemble and acclaimed composer, will conduct this year’s Honor Band concert.
“This is always a great event to host,” said Winona Holsinger, director of instrumental projects at Lee. “The students are solid musicians, who come to play music. They work hard and always have a great final concert. I look forward to having the Honor Band 2016 students with us.
The Honor Band will perform pieces by Larry Daehn, James Hosay, Ralph Vaughn Williams, among others.
The students were selected for the band based on information they submitted as well as recommendations from their individual band directors. They will begin rehearsing Thursday evening and rehearsals will continue through Saturday morning.
Lee students will also perform during the weekend in the Honor Band Collage Concert on Friday, Nov. 18, at 7:30 p.m. in the Conn Center. The performance will feature Lee’s Symphonic Band, the Jazz Ensemble, and the Wind Ensemble.
Both concerts are free, non-ticketed, and open to the public.
