String Ensemble to Present Autumn Pops Concert

News

The Lee University Chamber Strings will present its “Autumn Pops” concert on Friday, Oct. 14 at 7:30 p.m. at the Lee University Church Street Annex. This performance is the final event of the School of Music’s 3rd annual String Invitational.

Xiaoqing Yu, associate professor of music and concertmaster of the Greenville Symphony, will lead the chamber strings in an entertaining variety of musical styles, from Yu’s fiddle sounds in American folk tunes to the vibrant rhythms of jazz and tango.

A new element of this year’s program is a selection showcasing the talent of the String Invitational Rising Star Competition winner.

Also featured on the program are the “Rondo” from the Stamitz Viola Concerto, a transcription of “Sure on This Shining Night” by Barber, and a set of dance variations on the theme of “Happy Birthday” in honor of Dr. and Mrs. Conn’s twenty-five years of unparalleled service and leadership at Lee University.

Audience members are invited to meet the performers in the lobby for an hors d’oeuvres reception immediately after the concert.

This concert is free and open to the public. For more information, call the School of Music at 614-8240.
